This two-day business workshop—for the 2021 Online Core—aims to help type designers understand their industry and prepare to enter the market.
Your typeface is ready to use, now it just needs users. During this workshop with Dominic Stanley, a type designer with a business background, students will discover the tools they need to successfully sell their fonts.
Students will be introduced to business analysis tools which will allow them to research the type market and companies within the industry. Participants will also apply these analysis tools to their own business in preparation for entering the market.
Note: This workshop is only open to students enrolled in the 2021 Type West Online Postgraduate Certificate Program in Type Design.
Dominic Stanley is a type designer from Ireland with a masters in Type Design (MATD) from the University of Reading. He has a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Dublin Institute of Design and a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Waterford Institute of Technology.
Dominic worked as an accountant in Dublin for seven years before changing his focus to a career in type. He worked with companies from a wide range of industries; a large part of his job during that time involved business analysis. He now applies those business analysis tools to the type design industry and every year he teaches them in a business workshop to the MATD students in Reading.
