Introduction to Serif Lettering

In this two day workshop, students will learn the basics “modern” typefaces with a “rational” or vertical axis, that make use of the expansion contrast model. If that doesn’t make sense, that's okay! We’ll learn how to look at classic typefaces, honor the established conventions, and place thick strokes, thin strokes, and serifs where they should be. These practices imbue your lettering with a sense of classicism, integrity, and sophistication that is more than a cut above your typical cafe chalkboard. It’s time to level up!
