The first printers in western Europe relied on the manuscripts of the era for inspiration when constructing their typefaces and laying out their texts. In this four-day workshop, we will examine the calligraphic influences on the typefaces of the Incunabula Era. Students will learn how to use a chisel-edged pen to replicate both the Humanist minuscule and Chancery cursive scripts while analyzing the relationships with the early Italian typefaces each script spawned.
Note: This workshop is only open to students enrolled in the Type West Certificate Program in Type Design..
