To celebrate our third book, Only on Saturday: The Wood Type Prints of Jack Stauffacher, Letterform Archive presents an evening review of the beloved printer’s works in the collection. If you've backed the book on Kickstarter, admission is free.

Born in 1920 in San Mateo, California, Jack Stauffacher was a printer, typographer, and fine-book publisher whose delicate yet bold sensibility landed his work in library rare book collections and later in museums, which sought out his typographic prints. These prints — created in secret during Stauffacher’s off hours on the weekends using a box of discarded, mismatched wood type — are the subject of Letterform Archive’s third book. After Stauffacher’s death in 2017, Letterform Archive curators assisted in clearing his studio, gathering unique prints as well as process proofs that help tell its story.

To mark the close of the Kickstarter campaign for this expertly written and handsomely designed book, Publisher and Curator Rob Saunders presents a sneak peek at many of these never-before-seen pieces and shares what makes them so remarkable.

Doors at 6:00pm. Presentation begins promptly at 6:30pm.
