Eight years ago, the international foundry Typotheque began a meticulous study of Thai typography, focusing on reading performance and cultural perception. Collaborating with local experts and designers, Typotheque created a comprehensive a large collection of Thai font families, contributing to Thailand’s visual culture through extensive research and thoughtful design. Mint Tatisuwanna, an award-winning type designer based in Bangkok, describes the project.
Letterform Lectures are a public aspect of the Type West postgraduate program. The series is co-presented by the San Francisco Public Library, where events are free and open to all.
Mint Tantisuwanna
Mint Tantisuwanna is a type designer and lettering artist from Bangkok, Thailand. Her bachelor’s project on contemporary Thai blackletter typefaces was honoured by Granshan, winning a Special mention in the Thai category in 2019. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Typeface Design from The Cooper Union. After working in retail and custom typeface design for a few years, she moved to The Hague to study at the Royal Academy of Arts’ Type and Media MA programme, where she graduated in 2024. She is now a full time type designer at Typotheque.
