New Light on Old Types: A History of Type Design – Revisited

In 2012 Stan published Historical Types, a sequel to his palaeographical survey Historical Scripts. The specially-commissioned digital images for this book reveal the impression of the metal type into the surface, the squeeze of the ink, and even the surface quality of the paper or vellum. They shed New Light on Old Typefaces. And while compiling the commentaries on these images for his book, Stan discovered that many of the traditional Typographic Authorities did not always get it right, and he needed to shed New Light on these Old Types too.

This event is part of the Letterform Lecture series, co-presented by Type@Cooper West and the San Francisco Public Library, and sponsored by Adobe.
