Micro Typography

with Samantha Troy

Learn — or revisit — the principles of sound typographic practice.

  • Duration 2 sessions, 3 hours each

The text block serves as the foundation of any typographic layout, across both print and digital media. How do you select the right typeface and scale? What criteria guide line length and line spacing? And how do readability and visual hierarchy influence how a reader comprehends text?

This workshop investigates the core mechanics and overarching strategies of typography for lengthy texts, from individual letterforms to full-page compositions. We'll start by analyzing how type size, leading, line length, ragging, and text alignment interact. After reviewing classic page layout principles, participants will apply continuous text to single- and multi-column grid layouts.

Designed as a two-day intensive, this session is ideal for anyone looking to sharpen their ability to craft harmonious, well-proportioned body text. Participants should have basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
