Between Measures, Letterform Archive’s second exhibition with Astro Studios, explores the intersections between design and music — from medieval music notation to 21st-century gig posters. We chronicle the transformation of music media graphics through original vinyl covers, cassettes, and CD packaging. The exhibition highlights how digital platforms promote music through Pandora’s poster series and how avant-gardists redefine music notation with sound poetry. We also examine how the marriage between music and design connects communities, from concert posters gathering fans to magazines provoking dialog around our favorite genres. Come see original posters by Jason Munn, Milton Glaser, and Bonnie MacLean; album artwork by Joseph Albers, Mary Banas, and Wei Huang; and Michael Doret's logo for Kiss.

Join us for drinks at our opening reception on Thursday, February 21 at Astro Studios. The evening will also feature music by nofi (Manny Trevino), a designer at Pandora and Bay Area musician and DJ who plays hexing bass, breaks, and experimental club tracks.
