Bruce Kennett Lectures on the Type Designs of W. A. Dwiggins
Bruce Kennett, author of the upcoming biography W. A. Dwiggins: A Life in Design recently gave two in-depth lectures on Dwiggins’s typeface designs.
The first talk, presented in New York on June 5 as part of the Herb Lubalin Lecture series, reveals some of the many experimental designs that never made it to market. The images and insights from this talk give a peek at some of the material from Kennett’s book that has never been seen in any other publication. Note: There were some audio glitches in this recording which muffled the sound, but it improves significantly after the introduction.
The second talk, a Letterform Lecture from June 20, presents a history of the partnership between Dwiggins and Linotype’s Chauncey Griffith that lasted for nearly thirty years and produced some of the most popular faces of the 20th century.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign in April, W. A. Dwiggins: A Life in Design is now available.
