We’re thrilled to see the early reactions to Strikethrough: Messages of Protest, from visitor posts on social media to coverage in local and international press.

“As a graphic designer, it was really amazing to see the powerful use of design principles in these works. And as someone who stands in support of the people and their causes depicted by these graphics, it was moving.” — Victor Russell, design student

From the UK, Creative Review emphasized how “the curators have deliberately eschewed any sort of hierarchy around professional creatives and ‘non-designers’”. The The San Francisco Standard also appreciated how “buttons and patches from anti-fascist and punk rock movements are displayed alongside protest posters made by professional artists”. The San Francisco Examiner’s thoughtful review highlights many of the historical artifacts encapsulated in the gallery, while emphasizing the immediacy and placemaking of the Mariah app. (More about Mariah coming in a future post.) And we were on TV, thanks to opening weekend coverage from CBS Bay Area.
