$150.00

MSRP:

A bundle of volumes compiling facsimiles of typeface specimens from Lucian Bernhard, Roger Excoffon, and Aldo Novarese. Get all three at once and save!

Small masterpieces from the age of metal type, foundry specimen booklets introduced new typefaces to the world with exquisitely arranged showings and a variety of original in-use examples. Distributed as ephemeral marketing, many are in fact bold visual essays, statements of typographic craft, and prized keepsakes containing essential information about type as it was meant to be seen.

These volumes reproduce specimens of typefaces by celebrated German-American designer Lucian Bernhard, France’s midcentury maestro Roger Excoffon, and quintessential Italian type designer Aldo Novarese.

Type by Lucian Bernhard reproduces ten specimens of typefaces by celebrated German-American designer Lucian Bernhard. Drawn from across his career, the selection showcases Bernhard’s best-known designs, as well as some less familiar gems, and covers a broad range of styles, including roman, italic, script, blackletter, sans serif, and modern display. All ten complete facsimiles match their originals in size and trim. Stacked and bound together in a single volume, with an inside pocket containing a smaller booklet, they offer an unparalleled portrait of a singular career in type.

Type by Roger Excoffon features ten specimens of typefaces by midcentury maestro Roger Excoffon. Covering his entire career with Olive, the family foundry he transformed into an international trendsetter, the selection features dazzling specimens by Excoffon himself and generously includes examples of every typeface he created for the company. Bound in their original trims with an interior pocket containing smaller booklets, they offer invaluable access to the work of one design’s most unmistakable figures.

Type by Aldo Novarese contains sixteen facsimile specimens of typefaces by quintessential Italian type designer Aldo Novarese. Spanning a career of almost four decades with Nebiolo, the leading metal type foundry in Italy, the selection features many remarkable specimens designed by Novarese himself and includes a wide sampling of roman, script, sans serif, and display type. Preserved in their original trims and brought together in book form (with an inside pocket containing additional booklets), they offer a rich document of Novarese’s best work.
